about the work

I work in several media, including sculpture, conceptually-based installations, monotypes, and video. In my most recent sculptures and installations, I explore the concept of unity among diversity. Heritage #1 is based on the notion of our common genetic heritage. Similarly, Heritage #2 is an expression of my concern about the future, as humanity unlocks the Pandora's box of genetic manipulation. Bird imagery is the most recurrent theme in my gel-print monotypes. I see the birds as a symbol of freedom, transcending borders, fences, and boundaries, belonging to whatever place they happen to land.

I produce and host the cable TV program ART ABOUT that highlights artists and their creative process, demystifies art and the art making.

I have been teaching sculpture and drawing in the Boston area since 1993.

I have exhibited my work regionally and internationally. Among the awards and grants I have received are a fellowship in sculpture in 1999 project grants in film and video in 2002 and 2003 from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and an art residency in 1997, Svanekegården, Svaneke, Bornholm, Denmark.
