Bio:

Dorothy Clare Zarren got her BA at Skidmore College where she completed a double major in Studio Art with concentrations in both oil painting and graphic design, and Psychology. She also studied at Parsons Paris in France, an affiliate of the Parsons School of Design. While at Skidmore, her work was selected for two Juried Student Exhibitions at the Skidmore College Schick Art Gallery.

Dorothy recently completed the Post-Baccalaureate Program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Statement:

I am fed by my consistent interest in psychology (specifically why people think, feel, and behave the way they do), and by fashion and celebrity portrait photography. I am also influenced by the pop culture that saturates every day life, such as music videos, television sitcoms and dramas, movies, and magazines. When creating my own art, I often draw from the visuals of extreme lighting and drastic colors, along with intense emotion, which are often included in pop culture mediums. I use these influences to inspire my own photographs of friends and family, which then become the source material for my paintings and screenprints.
