Marja is a Finnish American painter and sculptor. She is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University. Much of Marja’s work has been inspired by her childhood memories in Finland. During her visits to her native country she usually discovers more memories and more material for her mixed media images. Marja’s work has been exhibited in a number of local museums, such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Harvard Art Museums in Cambridge, de Cordova Museum in Lincoln, Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, Cape Ann Museum in Gloucester as well as in art galleries and art centers across the country. She is a recipient of grants and fellowships from the New England Foundation for the Arts, the Artist Foundation, the Ballinglen Arts Foundation and the Mellon Foundation. Marja was a faculty member at the Museum School for twenty three years.
